Laura.

Laura Kwak has followed the professional school for goldsmith/entrepreneur in Schoonhoven. After two years of school and one year of a training course at a prominent goldsmith with shop in Zwolle, she decided she wanted to work for herself. To learn as much as possible in addition to the goldsmithwork itself, Laura worked at companies which are liasoned to the goldsmith profession. This way she has worked at a repairing workshop, a jeweller and at a foundry. In this way she has become familiar with all these areas. This gave a good basis to start her own atelier/workshop at home.

In April/May 2007 Laura followed another course in Florence, Italy and specialised herself in gemsetting. This way she has even more techniques to create jewelry in lots of varieties.

In her home near forests and moor Laura welcomes her customers and creates the longed for designs. The inspiration frequently comes from Mother nature. See the Faine design; this is made from a original beech mast from the forest. Another main point for designs is: simple but very femine. Or for men: simple but tough/robust. Laura finds it very important that the customer gets a jewel in her/his style, so to speak “that the sphere of the person is caught in the jewel” and that quality is satisfied to her perfectionism.

Laura’s workshop is called Marjolin. This name comes from her own name, Laura Marjoleine Kwak. Majoram is a herb. For this reason Laura has decided to give the jewels names which have been inferred of herb names.

Laura Kwak designs and manufactures her jewelry in the form of collections based on their own topic. These collections have their own story. The first collection Ladylin a female line in which forms and the ability to wear well are the starting-point. The next line will be based on Art Deco: Decolin. And of course the Naturelin with real nature objects. Each collection exists of a number of hand-made jewels. They exist as unique pieces or in a small series in which the individual pieces differ slightly due to the fact that everything is handmade.

Beside manufacturing jewels Laura creates also small artobjects of silver combined with stones from nature, for example: marble or granite.

As you have just read Laura is a very creative and passionate person who loves the craft industry she practises and to performs it as perfectly as possible in technique and design.
